Morning thoughts

This morning when I woke up at 7 am as usual,  I walked outside on the porch. Amazing. A new day, a new start. Thank you, thank you !!
The first thing that hit me was the smell. It was damp and dewy, and there was a subtle smell of smoke in the air. The sun was low but already bright and hot. The first thing that came to my mind was Nigeria. I remember those african mornings. I use to wake up early when the cockroach sounded loudly outside our rooms. And then the sound of the muslims praying from the minaret.  I would start the day by drinking my tea in the shade on the porch, just like I do always. Most people were still asleep. To get my tea I have to sneak down to the kitchen where some african staff already were preparing breakfast. They didn't know much english, but they got used to my morning company and we became friends. I used to help them doing the dishes. I think those were some of my sweetest times in Nigeria. Maybe some day I get to go back to beautiful Africa. Africa has a special place in my heart.
